Pine Technical College
Policy and Procedure
Policy Number: 112 Date: 7/01/02 Revision Date:
Division/Department: Administration Author: Robert Musgrove
Subject: New Employee Orientation
Authorities:
Purpose:
The efficient functioning of the college and the maintenance of a positive
climate require that new employees receive a thorough working introduction to
the various offices, functions and policies of Pine Tech. It is the purpose of
this policy to establish a process by which this orientation can be conducted.
Policy:
Supervisors will insure that new employees in their divisions are introduced
to the college through a structured, step-by-step orientation policy.
Procedure:
1. Each new, full time hire will receive an orientation checklist upon
arrival for his or her first day at work at PTC.
2. The checklist will cover all major areas of the employee/organization
relationship, including, but not limited to, the President’s office, Human
Resources, the Business Office and Information Services.
3. A pre-employment section will be completed by the new employee’s supervisor
to prepare for the arrival of the employee.
4. Each manager for the divisions listed on the checklist will provide an
overview - - or delegate a direct report to provide an overview - - of important
functions of that office and significant facts necessary for the new hire to
function. The President’s office will provide an overview of the mission and
core documents, as well as other policy and strategy level information.
5. The new hire’s supervisor will deliver an orientation to that new employee’s
own, home division.
6. For temporary or part time employees and adjunct faculty a separate,
abbreviated checklist will include only the essential functions necessary for
employees whose term or involvement with the college is limited in scope.
Responsibilities:
1. Human Resources and the Leadership Team will insure that checklist forms
are developed and periodically updated.
2. Managers whose offices are listed on the checklist will insure that the
orientation that they give is thorough and useful.
3. Supervisors will insure that the new employee completes the visits required
by the checklist and that the list is turned in to HR.
Dissemination:
Regular and full dissemination.
