Assessment and Orientation

Assessment and Orientation/Registration

After applying to the college, taking the "Accuplacer" assessment test and attending an Orientation/Registration session are mandatory steps for all PTC students unless they receive other direction from admissions staff.

Getting Scheduled for the Accuplacer and Orientation/Registration

Once you have been accepted to Pine Technical College, you will receive an additional letter with your scheduled Accuplacer Testing and Orientation/Registration dates and times. The Accuplacer assessment test typically takes students about 1 to 1.5 hours, and the Orientation/Registration typically takes about 3 hours.

Accuplacer assessment testing and Orientation/Registration sessions are typically scheduled on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from Nov. through early Jan. for those students starting in the Spring (Jan.) term; in May and April for those students entering in the Summer term; in June, July and August for those students entering in the Fall term. (The schedule of Accuplacer testing and Orientation/Registration sessions are not posted, as Student Affairs proactively schedules dates and times for applicants.) Tip: don't miss your Assessment date! Assessment testing sessions fill up; if you miss your appointment to test, you may have to wait several weeks for your next opportunity to test.

Space/seating is limited in Accuplacer assessment testing sessions at PTC. PTC schedules PTC applicants first. Students applying/attending other colleges but who wish to take the Accuplacer at PTC should contact PTC Student Affairs at 1-800-521-7463 or 320-629-5100 to check for seat availability.

If you have a disability and/or need accommodations for the assessment test, contact Katie Krier at 1-800-521-7463, TTY 320-629-1030, or email krierka@pinetech.edu.

Note: Please be aware if you attend/show up for Orientation/Registration, and you are not assigned to that particular date/time of Orientation/Registration, you will be turned away.

If you already have Accuplacer scores...

If you've already taken the Accuplacer exam at another institution, your scores may be usable at PTC. If you have taken the mathematics portion of the Accuplacer exam within two years, you may submit a copy of those results to PTC Student Affairs for consideration. It is up to you to locate/obtain a copy of your scores. If you have taken the reading and writing/sentence skills portions of the Accuplacer exam within three years, you may submit a copy of those results to PTC Student Affairs for consideration. Again, it is up to you to locate/obtain a copy of your scores.

Additionally, PTC requires scores from all three sections of the exam: Reading, Writing/Sentence, and Math. Many other institutions do not require all three sections, so it is possible you may have to take at least one remaining section of the exam.
