Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
People's lives often depend on the quick reaction and competent care of emergency medical technicians. Incidents as varied as automobile accidents, heart attacks, a drowning, childbirth, and gunshot wounds all require immediate medical attention. EMTs provide this vital attention as they care for and transport the sick or injured to a medical facility. This 120 hour course will train the participant with the skills and knowledge needed to respond to medical emergencies and pass the National Registry EMT test required for licensure. Participants will be qualified to work as Emergency Room Technicians, ambulance services, ski patrols and firefighters.

Times: M/W 6:00-10:00 pm; Saturdays 8:00 am-4:30 pm-Rm 250
Cost: $895.00 includes books and the National Emergency Medical Technician practical exam the last night of class. There is an additional cost for the written National Emergency Medical Technician exam of approximately $80.00 payable by check or money order to the National Registry of EMT.
Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Refresher
This course is designed to enhance, review, and introduce new skills to the current certified Emergency Medical Technician. With passing of written and practical tests along with either state or national continuing education requirements, students will receive their new two-year state or national registry certification. Prerequisite: You must provide proof of a current Healthcare Provider CPR card prior to course completion, plus your Minnesota EMT number and expiration date.

Health Care Provider CPR/AED Initial
The AHA Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide adult and pediatric CPR (including 2 rescuer scenarios), use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Certification is valid for 2 years (1 year for HCP). PTC teaches according to the latest (2010) guidelines. This course is best for healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, dentists and dental assistants, physicians’ assistants, medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, phlebotomists and other allied health personnel.

Pediatric CPR & First Aid
In addition to the basic techniques of CPR and AED, the AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid teaches the participants to manage illness and injuries in a child in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Topics include: First Aid Basics, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies, and Environmental Emergencies. Intended Audience: For those involved in child care such as parents, child care workers, teachers, camp counselors, youth organizations and coaches for children's sports organizations, other guardians and those who need or want to learn CPR, how to operate an AED, and Pediatric First Aid.

Heartsaver First Aid
The AHA Heartsaver First Aid teaches the participants to deal with injuries seen more frequently. This First Aid course teaches the lay person to recognize and react to situations such as choking, low blood sugar, bleeding, broken bones and sprains, seizures, strokes, insect bites and stings, and temperature related injuries. This course provides the class participant with an AHA 2-year certification for Heartsaver First Aid. (CPR and First Aid content meets the 2010 CPR and ECC Guidelines.)
Intended Audience: Responders like personal trainers, teachers, parents, lifeguards, corporate employees, and individuals who need or want to learn First Aid.

Heartsaver CPR/AED
The AHA Heartsaver CPR and AED teaches the basic techniques of adult/child/infant CPR and use of an AED. Students also learn to use barrier devices in CPR and give first aid for choking for adult, child and infant victims. This course provides the class participant with a 2-year certification for Heartsaver CPR. Cost includes an American Heart (AHA) card. Intended Audience: Responders like security personnel, teachers, parents, lifeguards, airline personnel, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death, and those who need or want to learn CPR and how to operate an AED. Ideal for workplace training where having trained lay responders may prove invaluable for the safety of customers as well as employees. (CPR and First Aid content meets the 2010 CPR and ECC Guidelines.)

Basic Life Support Instructor (BLS-I)
This American Heart Association updated curriculum BLS-I, 16-hour course is designed to teach individuals how to instruct Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Participants obtain training in providing effective education to learners as well as knowledge of current AHA policies, philosophies, and guidelines related to Basic Life Support. Participants will be expected to prepare and present a mini lecture on an assigned topic, correctly perform all Basic Life Support skills and complete a written test. Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a Basic Life Support Instructor certification number from the MnSCU-MRTC. Cost does not include a $25 membership fee to the MnSCU-Multi Regional Training Center (MRTC). Prerequisite: Current AHA BLS-HCP card/ARC Professional CPR card. Cost includes textbook.

Emergency Medical Responder Initial (Formerly First Responder)
The First Responder Initial course uses the guidelines established by the US DOT which meets and exceeds the requirements established by the MN EMS Regulatory Board. This course is intended for individuals charged with “first response” duties.

Nursing Assistant Test-Out
The Nursing Assistant Competency Exam is offered to qualified candidates seeking placement on the MN Department of Health Registry, as required for employment in most nursing homes. State and federal laws require that most candidates for testing have completed a MN state-approved Nursing Assistant training program of 75 hours or more. The competency exam includes a written portion and a hands-on demonstration of nursing assistant skills and abilities. Pre-registration and payment are required.

Home Health Aide
Home Health Aide is an additional 15 hour training intended to prepare students to work as home health aide/homemaker for agencies providing home care. Prerequisite: Must have completed a state-approved 75 hours or more nursing assistant course.
Dates: Saturdays, January 7 & 14 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Healthcare Provider (HCP) CPR/AED – Online Refresher Skills Exam
The online BLS Renewal Course provides a review for healthcare professionals who have prior CPR training. This program recognizes that healthcare professionals have knowledge and skills acquired from prior CPR training and years of patient care. For the 3-hour on-line course go to www.americanheart.org/cpr, and schedule a skills exam for $55 at Pine Technical College. Documentation of completion of the online course must be presented at the beginning of the skills exam. Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a HCP CPR card. Prerequisite: Current AHA HCP card with training in the updated AHA Guidelines.

Certified Food Manager Certification
This course provides the initial Food Manager Certification requirements of the State of Minnesota. Content includes the need for food safety, hazards that threaten food, the HACCP food safety system, and other basics of safe food handling. Course includes testing for the SERVSAFE Certificate.

Food Manager Refresher Course
This course is for food managers who have been certified within the last three (3) years and need four (4) hours of continuing education to maintain their certifica-tion. This course does not provide initial food manager certification. Proof of a current certif-icate or an expired certificate (no longer than one (1) year from the date of expiration) is needed to enroll. If available, please bring your SERVSAFE book with you.
