What is an articulation agreement?
An agreement between two or more institutions to transfer courses is called an Articulation Agreement. Through this agreement the institutions officially agree to transfer all of a specified program (certificate, diploma or degree). This usually occurs between a two-year college and a four-year college or university. Some agreements may indicate a cooperative program between institutions that result in a degree program.
What is an A.S. Degree?
The associate in science degree (AS) is intended for those students who wish to balance liberal arts education with professional-oriented classes. The primary purpose of the degree is to provide the credentials for a specific career and prepare graduates for admission to a four-year college. Approximately one-half of the coursework consists of liberal arts or general education credits and one-half comprises career-oriented courses.
What should I know if I am looking to transfer to another college?
Transferring can be a complicated matter. Essentially, transferring any credits requires the approval of the accepting institution. Therefore, it is wise to inquire with the institution you are planning to transfer to prior to taking any courses. The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum has made the transfer of general education courses an easier process.
What is the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum and how does it work?
The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum is the result of a collaborative effort by all of the two-and four-year public colleges and universities in Minnesota to define a common philosophy toward general education. The goal of this effort is to help students transfer their work in general education. Completion of a defined transfer curriculum at one institution enables a student to receive credit for all lower-division general education upon admission to any other institution.
